Position: Custodian - Lead 

Work Year: 52 weeks 

Hours: 40 hours per week - Second Shift

Starting Pay: $16.50 - $20.50  (range based on contract)

Position Summary

Provides custodial services at assigned site(s); ensures an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performs various special cleaning operations; and assists in preparing facilities for classroom activities and building events.

 

Essential Functions

• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers, wash windows.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures.
• Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
• Responsible for setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events, and assuring the security of the assigned building at the end of shift.
• Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum, and shampoo carpets.
• Responsible for landscaping and snow removal as necessary.
• Responsible for the security of the building during shifts.
• Perform minor maintenance in the building.
• Will fill in, as needed, for day shift custodians
• Other duties assigned by the building administrator or custodial/maintenance supervisor.
• Leadership responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting and monitoring part-time staff with duties as needed.

Employment Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of custodial work, including cleaning methods and materials and the use of custodial equipment equivalent to that gained in at least one year of experience or a combination of education and experience. Previous experience working in a sanitation, custodial or maintenance position is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the department team members, local travel in and around the school district, goal-setting ability, organizational skills, creative problem-solving ability, systematic planning, and the ability to plan for future needs.
• Previous custodial experience is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally high depending upon the student population and activities. The employee may be exposed to various conditions including wet or humid, work near moving parts, work in highly precarious places, various cleaning agents, some hazardous chemicals and fumes, outdoor weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and blood-borne pathogens.
